Hidden away in a bushveld setting, Zebra Nature Reserve is conveniently situated just 30km from Pretoria and 85km from OR Tambo International Airport.
We have encompassed some of the highlights of this reserve and its South African hospitality venues, to created a truly diverse and special trail on horseback where every day highlights a cultural aspect, or activity in a the safari setting. We stay true to the “safari feel” move with our horses for a week of discovery.

Our Accommodations and Venues

Situated with beautiful views of the lake, Zebra Stables offers 20 elegant suites and one family suite, all decorated and furnished with an authentic ethnic theme reflecting the African culture and tones of the bushveld. The rooms have modern amenities including tea/coffee stations, mini bars, ceiling fans, hairdryers, and en-suite facilities.
The lodge also offers a superior guest experience in its spacious restaurant serving international cuisine, well-stocked bar, swimming pool with bar service and two bomas where traditional barbeques and bush dinners under the evening sky are served.

This Exclusive-use camp is a true bushveld retreat hidden in the middle of the nature reserve, it offers four charming and rustic tents accommodating 8 people and each tent features two single stretcher beds, with linen, towels and hot water bottles in the cooler times of the year. Reed-lined showers and separate enclosed toilets add to the rustic atmosphere.
Personally serviced and catered to, this camp offers en exclusive bush atmosphere for the riders, tucked in the bush with their horses.
Electricity is powered through solar power, and there is no Wi-Fi available. Lanterns and candles set the romantic scene.

An active Ndebele village, where the locals will cook a traditional meal, and welcome the gusts with their joyful song.

Meet and greet at the airport. Guests are welcomed with a drink, at the Ndebele village, with a traditional song meal – after which they can change into riding gear, in one of the huts for their intro ride. Ride to near lying Stables lodge, and settle in.
Welcome drink, followed by dinner.

Ride to tented camp, and evening drumming session
After breakfast, mount your horses and set off to the tented camp. Arrive in time for lunch under canvas, and some time to relax and take in the views from the camp. Abundant game roams the area. Afternoon ride after lunch, and evening pre dinner drinks and dinner
followed by drumming session.

Morning and afternoon ride, with sundowners
After breakfast as the bush comes to life, set out for a ride into a different direction, with some nice canter tracks. Return to camp for lunch, and s short rest before you set out for the afternoon ride again. You will stop at a location in the bush where drinks will be served as you watch wildlife pass you by. Enjoy the sunset with your horses, and return to camp as the light fades. You will be welcomed back with the fire lit, and lanterns leading the way – for your three course meal at camp.

Full day ride with lunch in the bush
After breakfast, you will ride far out, where you will stop for lunch which will be miraculously set up in the bush with no detail missing.
When you return to camp you will be welcomed with a drink in hand, fire lit and the smell of fresh bread on the fire. Your gowns ready to change into something comfortable, and hot showers ready after a long day in the saddle.

Moring and afternoon ride
Another eventful day in the saddle, split into a morning and afternoon ride. In the PM you will do some tracking, maybe also on foot depending on the terrain. Your guide will point out an untrained eye might miss.
Back at camp for drinks and dinner and three course meal.

Morning ride and picnic in the bush followed by game drive (Big 5)
You will say goodbye to your home in the bush, and ride to a dam, where in a shaded spot picnic with be ready for your arrival. The horses will graze close by. You may swim in the dam and spend some time at the picnic spot, before heading to Stables lodge again, where you will check in. You driver will be ready to take you to Dinokeng neighboring reserve, for your big 5 game drive.

Morning ride and Kayaking or reptile center
After your breakfast and morning ride, you have the option of some kayaking or visiting the reptile ceneter. You also have the swimming pool available should you opt to relax before departure, at 15:00
